15 red-flag cancer ‘alarm’ symptoms you must not ignore

By ignoring or dismissing potential warning signs of cancer as less serious symptoms, many people put their lives at risk.

A new research funded by the Cancer Research UK shows that out of 53% of people who had experienced at least one red-flag cancer ‘alarm’ symptom during the previous three months, only two per cent thought that cancer was a possible cause.

This shows many are unaware of the cancer symptoms. (story continues after the photo)

Watch out for the following particular symptoms which can be caused by cancer

1. A lump somewhere on your body

2. Changes in a mole on your skin

3. A cough or hoarseness that won’t go away

4. A change in bowel habits

5. Difficulty in swallowing or continuing indigestion

6. Any abnormal bleeding

7. A sore or ulcer that won’t heal

8. Difficulty passing urine

9.  Unexplained weight loss

10. Unexplained pain

11. Feeling very tired all the time

12. Skin changes

13. Nipple changes

14. Unexplained night sweats

15. Breathlessness

Dr Katriina Whitaker, senior research fellow at University College London and lead study author, said: “Most people with potential warning symptoms don’t have cancer, but some will and others may have other diseases that would benefit from early attention. That’s why it’s important that these symptoms are checked out, especially if they don’t go away.”

Dr Sara Hiom, Cancer Research UK, encouraged all who notice any of the above symptoms to consult their doctors right away. “Making that doctor’s appointment is important. It’s not a waste of time for the GP or the patient – it really could save your life,” she said.
